Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah summoned top police officials to CM House on Thursday for a briefing on the ongoing investigation into the Mustafa Amir murder case, a high-profile crime that has sparked public outcry, Express News reported on Thursday.
Inspector General Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon and Additional Inspector General of Karachi Javed Alam Odho were called alongside senior officers from the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC), and Special Investigation Unit (SIU), police officials said.
Odho is expected to brief the chief minister on the progress made in the investigation, including key revelations from suspects Armaghan and Sahir Hassan during interrogation.
The meeting will also cover future strategies to ensure justice in the case.
Moreover, police barred the mother of Armaghan, a key suspect in the Mustafa Amir murder case, from meeting her son during a court hearing in Karachi.
Armaghan, one of two suspects in the high-profile case, was produced alongside Shiraz before an anti-terrorism court inside Karachi’s central jail.
The court was hearing proceedings on the January 6 abduction and murder of 27-year-old Mustafa Amir, which sparked widespread outrage.
Armaghan’s mother attempted to meet her son but was stopped by police officers.
"Senior officers have instructed us not to allow meetings due to security risks," police officials told her.
The victim’s parents have repeatedly appealed for justice, threatening a hunger strike if authorities fail to ensure a fair trial.
They have urged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the army chief, and the chief justice of Pakistan to intervene.
Furthermore, a new twist emerged in the Mustafa Amir murder case, with allegations surfacing against a police officer for allegedly aiding the prime suspect, Armaghan Qureshi.
Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Nadeem of the Gizri police was questioned and later released, with authorities stating that further inquiries would be conducted if necessary.
The investigation has revealed that ASI Nadeem had communication with Armaghan, which he claimed was for investigative purposes related to previous cases.
However, authorities suspect that ASI Nadeem may have played a role in preventing legal action against Armaghan for an earlier incident.
