Mirawais, the legendary Pashto comedian who brought joy to countless people for nearly half a century, is now facing immense hardship due to deteriorating health and financial struggles.
One of his legs has already been amputated due to prolonged illness and diabetes, and doctors at Mardan Medical Complex are preparing to remove the other in the coming days.
Once a beloved entertainer who ruled the hearts of the public, Mirawais now finds himself abandoned by his own people and neglected by the authorities. Despite his immense contributions to Pashto entertainment, he has never received official recognition or an award from the government.
His illness left him bedridden for a long time, causing him to fade from public memory. Yet, his impact on Pashto stage, theater, radio, and television remains undeniable. Having started his career in the 1970s, he recorded over 6,000 audio cassettes and appeared in hundreds of dramas. Known as the king of solo stand-up comedy, he performed for hours without a script, earning him the title of the Moin Akhtar of the Pashto showbiz industry.
Throughout his career, he encouraged and inspired young talent. Today, however, this great artist of Pashto entertainment lies in a coma at Mardan Medical Complex, with no government representatives or cultural officials visiting him. His condition highlights the unfortunate neglect of veteran artists who once brought happiness to so many lives.
