President to address joint sitting

ISLAMABAD:

President Asif Ali Zardari is scheduled to address a joint session of the parliament in the coming month to kick start the new parliamentary year.

This will be the second address of Zardari to the 16th National Assembly. He addressed the lower house on April 18 of 2024 at the start of its first parliamentary year.

This will be Zardari's eighth address to parliament as the PPP co-chairman, during his first term as the president between 2008 and 2013 addressed joint parliamentary sessions six times.

According to sources, the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs has started making preparations for the session and has acquired data with regard to the performance of the federal government in its first year.

They said in his address the president will discuss the government's economic policies, political situation, and national challenges. He will also highlight the government's accomplishments over the past year and present suggestions for improving the political situation.

All four governors, chief ministers, heads of the armed forces, and diplomatic representatives will attend the session. Key figures will also be invited to the joint session of Parliament.

Under Article 56 of the Constitution, the president addresses the joint session of parliament at the beginning of the parliamentary year.
