World Bank delegation to visit Tarbela Dam

Visit comes as World Bank’s Executive Directors arrive in Pakistan after a gap of 20 years.

A delegation from the World Bank will visit the Tarbela Dam to assess the expansion work in Pakistan's Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province.

According to sources, the World Bank delegation, consisting of 9 Executive Directors, has already met with the Prime Minister and other senior officials.

The delegation is scheduled to meet with Pakistan's Finance Minister, Minister for Economic Affairs, Minister for Planning, and Minister for Energy, during which discussions will focus on the effective implementation of $40 billion in funding.

This marks the first visit to Pakistan by the World Bank’s Executive Directors in 20 years, and they will discuss strategies for the successful implementation of the Country Partnership Framework.

According to Express News the delegation will also visit provinces to review developmental efforts and formulate strategies.

During their visit, the World Bank delegation will tour the Tarbela Lake and Power Station to review the expansion work. Additionally, the delegation will also visit Taxila.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his gratitude for the $40 billion investment in Pakistan under the World Bank, calling it a welcome development.

According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office Press Wing, the PM met with a delegation of World Bank Executive Directors, where he welcomed their visit to Pakistan.

He highlighted the long-standing partnership between the World Bank and Pakistan, which spans over seven decades. Many significant projects supported by the World Bank have played a key role in the country’s development.

The PM stated that Pakistan has benefitted greatly from its partnership with the World Bank, particularly during the 2022 floods when the World Bank provided substantial assistance to those affected.

Under the recent Country Partnership Framework, the World Bank is set to invest $40 billion in Pakistan, which is a positive development.
