'Cyclothon' attracts hundreds of families

Dog contest, polo match also feature in Horse and Cattle Show

The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) organised a 'Cyclothon' for cycling enthusiasts from Mozang to Liberty Chowk on Sunday as part of the Horse and Cattle Show 2025.

A large number of men, women, and children participated in the event.

Additionally, a Family Cyclothon saw the participation of around 500 families, adding to the event's community engagement.

The winners of the event were awarded prizes of Rs200,000 for the first position, Rs100,000 for second and Rs50,000 for the third position.

PHA Additional Director General Zeeshan Ranjha said the authority was organising several healthy activities for citizens in connection with the Horse and Cattle Show.

He emphasised that cycling is beneficial for both health and the environment. By promoting the cycling culture, a healthy society can be established. Citizens could contribute to building a healthy society by incorporating cycling into their daily lives.

PHA sports Director Amir Ibrahim said cycling is not only a means of transport but also a fantastic form of recreation, exercise and sport. Cycling benefits physical health and provides mental peace.

The authority is organising events for citizens at Jilani Park, Bagh Jinnah and Fortress Stadium.

The PHA also organised an All Breed International Dog Show at Jilani Park, which showcased 280 dogs from 35 breeds.

The show featured a diverse range of breeds, including German Shepherd, Australian Shepherd, American Bulldog, Boxer, Alaskan Malamute and Borzoi.

International judges Jeff Horswell and Peter Friedrich oversaw the competition.

In addition to breed competitions, the show included grooming demonstrations, dog nutrition and health awareness sessions, and specialty contests. Winners in various categories were awarded trophies, medals and gifts.

The event aimed to promote awareness about pet care attracted a large number of visitors. The PHA also organised a polo match at Fortress Stadium between the teams of Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Chitral secured victory by scoring six goals against Gilgit-Baltistan's five.
