DI KHAN:

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police have issued security advisory for Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, asking him to enhance security and restrict movement.

In a letter written to JUI-F chief Maulana Fazl, Dera Ismael Khan ASP cautioned him to take precautionary measures, saying sources informed the police that Fitna-Al-Khwarij (FAK) terrorists have planned to target him (Fazl) due to his involvement in religious and political activities.

In order to execute the plan, the task has been given to armed target killers, said the K-P police advisory, adding they intend to execute the plan secretly.

"In the wake of the recent terrorist incidents against JUI-F leaders in Bajaur tribal district and looming threats to you, you are advised to enhance your security at your residence and limit your movements, said the police advisory, asking him to ensure strict security measures before meeting unfamiliar individuals.

Expressing concern over the advisory, JUI-F spokesperson Aslam Ghauri criticized the government for instilling fear instead of ensuring security.

He accused the K-P government of panicking after the successful peace Jirga in Peshawar and demanded that authorities clarify what security measures they have taken to protect Maulana Fazlur Rehman.

He advised the government to admit its failure if it is unable to perform its responsibility. JUI workers are fully capable of protecting their leader, said Ghauri, adding the party will foil all conspiracies aimed at creating a gulf between JUI-F leadership and its workers.

"It is the government's responsibility to protect the lives and properties of all citizens, including JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman," asserted the JUI-F spokesman. He cautioned the K-P government against mistaking JUI-F's peaceful stance for weakness.

He demanded that the government ensure the safety and security of the entire JUI-F leadership.
