The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government has unveiled a new online system for vehicle registration, tax payment, and universal number plate issuance under the "Dastak" platform.
The system, which was launched at an event held at the Chief Minister's House, aims to simplify vehicle-related services and reduce the need for citizens to visit government offices, Express News reported.
K-P Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur formally inaugurated the system, which will allow citizens to complete various services, such as vehicle registration and tax payments, from the comfort of their homes.
The move is expected to improve transparency, reduce corruption, and increase the efficiency of government services.
The project had a pilot phase in September 2023, which saw the registration of 13,229 vehicles, the issuance of 71,654 vouchers, and the transfer of ownership for 6,437 vehicles.
The initiative generated over Rs28 crore in revenue and issued 13,738 universal number plates.
Gandapur praised the efforts of the Excise Department for successfully implementing the system and emphasized the positive impact of digitization on public services.
He also highlighted the economic benefits of the initiative, stating that the province had increased its income by 49% through efficient use of resources.
The system is expected to have a positive effect on preventing vehicle theft and misuse, with citizens being able to complete all necessary tasks online.
The Chief Minister also announced plans to use technology to fight drug abuse, urging citizens to cooperate with authorities in the fight against illicit drugs.
In his speech, Gandapur expressed his commitment to the province’s progress, stating that K-P will continue to push for development and justice, even if it means taking legal action at every forum.
