A western weather system has entered Pakistan’s upper regions, bringing widespread rain and snowfall, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said on Wednesday.
The system is expected to bring strong winds and rainfall across Punjab, including Lahore, Faisalabad, and Sargodha. Light to moderate showers are also likely in Multan, Sahiwal, and Bahawalnagar.
In the mountainous regions of Murree, Galiyat, and the northern areas, snowfall is predicted, with temperatures expected to drop further.
Authorities warned that snowfall could affect travel in these areas.
Peshawar and its surrounding districts are also set to experience intermittent rain and strong winds, while snowfall is likely in Chitral, Swat, Malam Jabba, and Parachinar. The minimum temperature in Peshawar was recorded at 7°C, while Kalam dropped to -3°C.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has advised tourists and residents to remain cautious, particularly in hilly regions prone to snowfall. “Travellers should plan their journeys carefully, and in case of emergencies, they can contact PDMA’s helpline 1129,” said Director General Irfan Kathia.
Authorities have placed emergency services on high alert as wet conditions may lead to travel disruptions and difficult road conditions.
Karachi to remain warm as Champions Trophy begins
Karachi is set for a mostly cloudy and very warm day on Wednesday, with temperatures peaking at 32°C and dropping to 19°C, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department.
Afternoon breezes could play a role in match conditions as the ICC Champions Trophy kicks off with Pakistan facing New Zealand at National Bank Stadium.
Cricket fans are eagerly anticipating this major event, which marks Pakistan’s first international tournament of such scale in nearly 30 years.
Spectators attending the match are advised to stay hydrated and take precautions against the heat. Looking ahead, Karachi’s weather on Thursday is expected to be sunny, with temperatures ranging between 23°C and 31°C, ensuring favourable conditions for the tournament’s second day.
