Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Najmi Alam has urged the Sindh government and the Karachi South administration to close tea hotels in the Defence and Clifton areas of Karachi by midnight.
In a letter addressed to Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and the Deputy Commissioner of South Karachi, Alam highlighted concerns that tea hotels have become safe havens for criminal elements, Express News reported.
He also raised alarm over reports of drug trafficking activities at tea hotels in Clifton Block 2, where such activities are allegedly taking place throughout the night.
Alam further pointed out that the loud music played at these hotels has become a significant disturbance for local residents, contributing to the growing public unrest.
The PPP leader has formally requested that the Deputy Commissioner set regulated closing hours for these establishments, with the aim of improving public safety and curbing criminal activity in these areas.
Copies of the letter have also been sent to the Sindh Chief Minister and Karachi Commissioner for further action.
