Telugu film 'Thandel', starring Naga Chaitanya and Sai Pallavi, has crossed $11.5 million in global box office collections within 10 days of its release, marking Chaitanya's first film to achieve this milestone.
Directed by Chandoo Mondeti, 'Thandel' hit theatres on February 7 in Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi, with the Telugu version driving the majority of the earnings.
The film grossed $6.58 million domestically, earning approximately $0.37 million on its second Sunday alone.
'Thandel' is inspired by a true 2018 incident involving fishermen from Srikakulam who inadvertently drifted into Pakistani waters during a fishing trip from Gujarat. Alongside its gripping narrative, the film is also a poignant love story between the lead characters portrayed by Chaitanya and Pallavi.
The movie’s strong performance has drawn comparisons to other major hits like Ram Charan’s 'Game Changer'. However, 'Thandel' has achieved its success on a more modest budget.
Speaking to ETimes, Naga Chaitanya reflected on the film’s emotional core, stating, “Genuine love has a lot of pain in it. When you live through this pain and come out of it, it bonds the relationship in a very different manner.”
