Sindh's Director General (DG) of Health has issued urgent directives to address the rising H1N1 influenza cases in the province.

In an official notice sent to all district health officers, medical superintendents of government hospitals, and other relevant authorities, the Sindh Health Department has instructed strict monitoring of H1N1 cases in all hospitals , Express News reported.

Suspected and confirmed cases must be promptly reported to the provincial health office. Hospitals must also ensure protective measures, including the provision of PPE kits for medical staff.

The notice further emphasises the need for a public awareness campaign to promote mask-wearing and social distancing. Influenza vaccination should be strongly encouraged, especially for vulnerable individuals, medical staff, children, and those with existing health conditions. All medical centers must strictly follow infection control protocols.

District officials have been directed to submit daily reports on cases and challenges faced. According to the Health Department, preventive measures and timely vaccinations can help curb the spread of the virus.

The public has been advised to avoid unnecessary gatherings and to seek medical consultation immediately if symptoms appear.

A month ago, Sindh Health Minister Dr Azra Pechuho dismissed reports of a COVID-19 outbreak in Karachi, terming them incorrect, as reported by local media.

In a statement issued on Monday, the minister clarified that out of more than 100 Covid-19 tests conducted in Karachi, only seven individuals tested positive. "Reports of a Covid-19 spread in the city are baseless," she said.

Dr Pechuho explained that precautionary Covid-19 tests were conducted for individuals suffering from seasonal flu and influenza.
