
Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon has said that the Amal Umer Act applies to all hospitals, allowing victims of gunshots or accidents to seek treatment at private hospitals, with the Sindh government covering the expenses.
No police certificate will be required.
Speaking at a press conference, he warned that influenza cases are rising rapidly in Pakistan and other countries. “I urge all Pakistanis to maintain social distance and avoid handshakes. This disease can also affect the lungs, so take precautions,” he said.
He explained that the Sindh Assembly had passed the Amal Umer Act, making it a law applicable to all hospitals. “If someone suffers a gunshot wound or an accident, they can go to a private hospital.
Under the Amal Umer Act, emergency cases can be treated at any private hospital, with expenses covered by the Sindh government, and no police certificate will be required.”
Sharjeel Memon mentioned that the Sindh governor had raised objections to the bill passed by the provincial assembly. “The cabinet has rejected all objections, and the bills will be reintroduced in the assembly on Monday. Some bills even included MQM's input. The governor’s objections are respected, but this is democracy, and the cabinet has a different stance.”
He announced that strict measures would be enforced in two days against the public display of weapons. “Anyone seen carrying a weapon will be arrested. From Monday, unregistered vehicles will also be strictly dealt with, and no unregistered car will be allowed to leave showrooms. Vehicle fitness is mandatory, and transporters have assured compliance with all regulations. Underage individuals and those without a driving license will not be allowed to drive.”
On the issue of university vice chancellors, Sharjeel Memon stated that eligibility would be the only criterion for selection. “Anyone qualified can become a vice chancellor, and every Pakistani has the right to apply.”
Earlier, the Sindh government imposed a ban on vehicles operating without "physical fitness certificates" to curb traffic accidents. on Karachi's roads, acording to an announcment made by Sindh's Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon.
Additionally, new revised timings for dumper trucks have been introduced following a surge in fatal accidents. Dumper trucks are now restricted to operating between 10pm and 6am, adjusted from the previous 11pm to 6am slot for public convenience.
Highlighting Karachi’s development, he said over 200 electric vehicles are currently being used for waste collection. He acknowledged the challenges faced by citizens due to ongoing development projects but attributed them to multiple factors.
Additionally, he stated that security guards must remain inside vehicles instead of sitting in open patrol trucks.
