With the score tied at 18 in the final minute, the Indigenous side was awarded a controversial penalty after the Bunker ruled that a Maori defender had run into Leilani Montgomery’s kicking leg during a field goal attempt.

Montgomery converted from in front as time expired, sealing the victory.

The Indigenous team led 10-0 early through tries from Monique Donovan and Jaime Chapman before the Maori hit back, scoring three tries to take a 16-12 halftime lead.

A penalty goal extended the Maori advantage, but the Indigenous side responded with a try and a penalty goal with six minutes left to set up the dramatic finish.

The win gives the Indigenous women back-to-back All Stars victories after their 26-4 triumph in 2024.
