RAWALPINDI:

A local court granted on Thursday a four-day physical remand for the couple, who murdered a 12-year-old maid after subjecting her to severe torture. The victim's only 'sin' was to eat their daughter's Rs20 worth of chocolate.

Civil Judge Imran Qureshi, who heard the case, ordered the recovery of the weapon used in the offence. The Bani police presented the suspects and their accomplice Rubina Naveed to the court under tight security.

Upon the police's written request, the court sent accomplice Rubina Naveed on a 14-day judicial remand to Adiala Jail, stating that the investigation with her had been completed and that she would be brought back for the hearing on February 27.

The police also requested a seven-day physical remand for Rashid Shafiq and Sana Rashid for recovering the murder weapon.

Initial investigations revealed that the victim identified as Iqra had eaten the suspect couple's daughter's chocolate. Neighbours reported that the victim repeatedly swore during the abuse, claiming that it was the couple's daughter who had eaten the chocolate, but the couple disregarded her statement and continued the brutal assault. They beat the girl with a rolling pin for allegedly stealing chocolate.

The child screamed, but the abuse escalated. The police informed the court that the investigators needed to create a map of the crime scene and take statements from eyewitnesses.

The court rejected the police's request for a seven-day remand, instead granting a four-day physical remand for the couple. The couple was transferred to the police station under heavy security for further investigation and will be presented again on February 16.
