KARACHI:

Two cops, including a senior officer, were injured when suspects opened fire on them during a raid by the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) on a bungalow in Gizri on Sunday.

Additional police personnel were called in following the firing, leading to the arrest of the accused after a four-hour standoff.

According to SHO PS Gizri Farooq Sanjrani, the AVCC team raided a house in Khayaban-e-Momin, DHA, Phase V, as part of an operation to recover a kidnapped person.

However, as the police searched the first floor of the house, suspects on the second floor opened fire, injuring DSP AVCC Ahsan Zulfiqar and Constable Aslam. A lady police officer also sustained minor injuries from a bullet shell.

Subsequently, reinforcements were called in, and after a tense four-hour operation, police arrested the suspect, identified as Armaghan. The bungalow was searched thoroughly, leading to the discovery of a huge cache of weapons - including seven firearms and 12,000 rounds of ammunition. Moreover, liquor bottles and drug residues were found on the premises.

Police have since sealed the bungalow, and the Crime Scene Unit has been called in to collect forensic evidence. Police said that the raid was conducted legally, with a search warrant and the presence of lady police officers.
