RAWALPINDI:

Punjab Road Safety Authority (PRSA) has set a speed limit of 60 kilometres per hour for motorcyclists on all roads and highways across the province including Rawalpindi.

According to officials, the measure has been taken in line with the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, under which the traffic system and road safety across Punjab are being improvised.

"The provincial cabinet meeting considered proposals to set a safe speed limit, and it was decided to set the speed limit at 60 kilometres per hour," they said.

After cabinet approval, PRSA set the prescribed speed limit for motorcyclists for which a formal notification has also been issued.

According to Rawalpindi Chief Traffic Officer Beenish Fatima, in the past, speed limits for motorcyclists varied depending on the road and area.

However, now a uniform speed limit of 60 kilometres per hour has been set for motorcyclists on all highways and roads in Punjab, including motorways.

She added that awareness will be raised in Rawalpindi, and enforcement will be carried out effectively to ensure compliance with the speed limit.
