Candace Owens, the conservative commentator, recently made bold claims about a supposed collaboration between Hollywood stars Taylor Swift and Blake Lively, and influential journalists Ronan Farrow and Megan Twohey.
In a recent episode of her YouTube show, Owens speculated that Lively, using her friendship with Swift, sought the help of Farrow and Twohey to orchestrate a campaign against actor and director Justin Baldoni. This alleged collaboration culminated in a December 21 article by Twohey, which Owens believes was meant to damage Baldoni’s reputation.
In her commentary, Owens suggested that Lively, who accused Baldoni of sexual harassment, called upon Swift’s powerful connections, including Farrow and Twohey, to amplify her allegations. Owens contended that Twohey’s article, published by The New York Times just before Christmas, was not an impartial investigation but rather a deliberate attempt to "take down" Baldoni.
The article, based on Lively's accusations, portrayed Baldoni in a highly negative light and led to public backlash. Owens described the piece as a strategy to destroy Baldoni’s career, claiming it was more of a targeted hit job than a fair journalistic effort. According to Owens, Lively’s close relationship with Swift played a central role in enlisting Farrow and Twohey to legitimize her claims.
Owens went on to speculate that the media attention surrounding Lively’s allegations, aided by these prominent journalists, pressured Baldoni into filing a $250 million lawsuit against The New York Times. In the lawsuit, Baldoni accused the publication of promissory fraud, arguing that it had misled him about the article's intent and its potential impact on his reputation.
Farrow and Twohey, both renowned for their investigative work—especially during the #MeToo movement—have not publicly responded to Owens' claims. However, Owens’ theory places them at the heart of a coordinated effort to harm Baldoni. She also emphasized Swift’s role as the key link between Lively and the journalists, suggesting that Swift's influence helped secure media support for Lively’s accusations.
While Owens admitted that much of her theory was speculative, she underscored the broader implications of the case: the potential abuse of media power and the influence of celebrity connections in shaping public narratives. If Owens' claims are true, it would highlight how influential figures in Hollywood can use their networks to drive media coverage and even impact legal outcomes.
