Strictly star Wynne Evans faces BBC backlash after making inappropriate comment about female host

BBC star Wynne Evans, known for his role in the Go Compare ads and as a BBC radio presenter, has faced significant backlash after making an inappropriate sexual comment about Strictly Come Dancing host Janette Manrara.

The incident occurred at a photocall to launch the Strictly live tour, where Evans crudely suggested a three-way sex session using the derogatory term 'spit roast'. The comment, captured by The Mail on Sunday, quickly drew condemnation from BBC bosses, who stated they would not tolerate such behavior.

This is not the first time Evans has been involved in a controversy related to the BBC’s flagship show.

Last year, during live broadcasts, Evans was accused of groping his dance partner, Katya Jones, though both parties later described it as a misunderstood joke.

In the recent incident, Evans made the comment while posing for photos with Manrara, a professional dancer and host of the live tour, and actor Jamie Borthwick. While the reaction of Manrara remains unclear in the footage, Borthwick visibly winced at the remark. Following the incident, Evans withdrew from a Glasgow performance of the Strictly tour, citing an ankle injury, but later apologized for his "inappropriate and unacceptable" language.

BBC Studios and the Strictly Live tour producers have confirmed they were unaware of the remark before it was made public and emphasized that they do not condone such behavior. They also communicated their disapproval directly to Evans. The controversy has further tarnished the BBC's reputation amid a series of scandals affecting the network.
