Fate of USC to be decided in near future

Rana Tanveer stresses need for giving priority to public interests

ISLAMABAD:

Minister for Industries and Production Rana Tanveer Hussain on Friday said that final decision regarding the closure or restructuring of Utility Stores Corporation (USC) would be taken in the next meeting.

"All decisions regarding the corporation will be made transparently, prioritising public interests," the minister said while chairing a high-level meeting pertaining to USC, said a news release. Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja also attended the meeting, where she presented significant recommendations.

Meeting participants discussed the implementation of prime minister's directives concerning utility stores and the future course of action. Measures to expedite the USC closure process were also reviewed. To enhance the productivity of USC employees and outlets, a special committee has been formed. It was highlighted that several private sector companies had expressed interest in USC restructuring.
