Robert Eggers, acclaimed director of Nosferatu and The Northman, is diving into the world of werewolves with his next horror project, Werwulf.
The film, which he co-wrote with Sjón, is set to release on Christmas Day 2026 in North America. Eggers has previously worked with Sjón on the 2022 epic The Northman, and the duo will once again collaborate on this chilling werewolf tale.
Werwulf will be produced by Eggers and Sjón alongside Focus Features, who have financed and distributed all of Eggers' films to date. These include The Witch (2015), The Lighthouse (2019), and the upcoming Nosferatu, starring Lily-Rose Depp, Bill Skarsgård, and Willem Dafoe. The horror director is known for his atmospheric, immersive storytelling, and fans are eager to see how he brings the mythical werewolf legend to the screen.
In addition to Eggers and Sjón’s creative leadership, Werwulf will feature executive production from Chris and Eleanor Columbus of Maiden Voyage. With a strong team behind it, Werwulf is shaping up to be another major entry in the world of horror films, continuing the director's trend of blending historical themes with supernatural horror.
As anticipation builds for this dark werewolf tale, horror enthusiasts can look forward to yet another unique cinematic experience from Robert Eggers when Werwulf hits theaters in 2026.
