After a series of disappointing seasons in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), the Quetta Gladiators have opted for a change in leadership. According to sources, the franchise has named Saud Shakeel as their captain for the upcoming PSL 2025 season, following a comprehensive review of their team strategy.

The Gladiators, who won the PSL title in 2019, have decided to hand the captaincy to Shakeel as part of their efforts to revamp both their leadership and overall team dynamics, Express News reported.

Shakeel, who has shown considerable promise in recent years, will not only take on the captaincy but will also open the batting. His appointment is seen as a strategic move, with Shakeel’s impressive strike rate of 141.67 last season playing a key role in the decision.

Sarfaraz Ahmed, who led the Gladiators to three finals and their only PSL title in 2019, was replaced as captain last year after eight seasons of leadership but he continued to play as a wicketkeeper-batter.

Rilee Rossouw took over as captain for PSL 2024, leading the Gladiators to the playoffs for the first time in three years, although they fell short of reaching the final.

After another season without a final appearance, the Gladiators have decided to move forward with a new leadership structure. With a refreshed strategy and Shakeel at the helm, the franchise is determined to reclaim the PSL trophy in 2025, marking a new chapter in their pursuit of success.
