Dr Adeebul Hassan Rizvi, one of the country's most respected doctors, was recently hospitalised due to deteriorating health, where he is now feeling better and showing improvement.
According to Express News, he was admitted to the hospital on Saturday after his condition worsened. However, his health has since shown improvement during treatment.
Officials from the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) have stated that Dr Rizvi will be transferred to SIUT in the next 24 hours. Previously, he had been admitted to a private hospital after his condition worsened.
News of Dr Rizvi's illness has caused widespread concern across the country. He is highly regarded for his exceptional contributions to the healthcare sector, particularly in kidney dialysis, organ transplants, and free medical care since 1985.
Born on September 9, 1938, Adeeb’s journey began from the prestigious DJ Science College after passing his initial years at his ancestral town of Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh.
He was elected as a student leader, got a scholarship, went abroad, refused nationality of a foreign country and came back to Pakistan.
His tireless dedication to the health sector has earned him immense respect as he founded SIUT in 1970 at Karachi’s Civil Hospital, initially as a small eight-bed facility for kidney patients.
Inspired by his mentor, he dedicated his career to providing free dialysis and transplants. In 1991, SIUT became an independent institution and expanded its services to include cardiology, gastroenterology, nephrology, oncology, neurology, psychiatry, and pulmonology.
In 2003, SIUT performed Pakistan's first liver transplant, followed by a pancreas transplant in 2016. In 2004, a dedicated pediatric unit was established to address the needs of young patients.
More recently, SIUT launched the Hanifa Suleman Dawood Oncology Center, providing treatment for various cancers, including bladder, kidney, prostate, and adrenal cancers, as well as post-transplant complications.
