SITE Association of Industry (SAI) President Ahmed Azeem Alvi has urged the government to prioritise the long-neglected development of Karachi, especially its industrial areas which lack proper road infrastructure and other basic facilities.
He said Karachi had been severely neglected for many years and required immediate attention from those in power, along with its due share in resources. The city, particularly the industrial areas, awaits proper infrastructure, which must be prioritised for development work.
He acknowledged National University of Sciences and Technology's (NUST) efforts to provide free higher education to deserving students, based purely on merit. Taking advantage of the presence of a NUST team, the SITE association president requested their support for highlighting the issues faced by industries in the SITE area and the entire Karachi in the influential corridors of Islamabad.
He was speaking during a meeting with the team from Islamabad, led by Rabia Abbas Malik, Lead Advancement, and comprising Abeera Atif, Lead Projects and Ameer Hamza, Lead Alumni Relations, who visited the NUST Icon at the SITE Association of Industry and discussed fund raising for the deserving students.
NUST representatives said of the total required funds for scholarships for the deserving students, philanthropists in Karachi contributed nearly 51%, the largest share in the country. This reflects the sincerity of the people of Karachi, particularly the business community.
