Zooey and Emily Deschanel are among the hundreds of residents affected by the devastating Los Angeles wildfires. The sisters’ childhood home in Pacific Palisades, California, was destroyed by the ongoing Palisades Fire, as revealed by Zooey Deschanel in a heartfelt Instagram post on Friday, January 17, which coincided with her 45th birthday.

The home, a 1920s Spanish Revival and one of the oldest in the Palisades, held deep sentimental value for the Deschanel family. Zooey described it as “cozy, lovely, unique, and perfect” and recalled it being affectionately nicknamed “The Church” due to its 14-foot ceilings and stained glass windows. The home served as a backdrop for cherished family events, including Christmas dinners, Easter egg hunts, weddings, and birthdays.

Deschanel lamented the loss of family photos, heirlooms, and sentimental items, including the piano she learned to play on and furniture crafted by her great-great-grandfather. In her post, she acknowledged that their home was just one of 12,300 structures destroyed in the Palisades and Eaton Fires, which have devastated neighborhoods in Pacific Palisades and Altadena.

She expressed her gratitude to firefighters for their tireless efforts in protecting residents and praised the support extended to affected communities. “To the firefighters who have been working around the clock to keep everyone safe: You are our true heroes,” she wrote.

The Los Angeles wildfires continue to cause widespread destruction, displacing residents and erasing landmarks. Zooey Deschanel’s reflections highlight the personal toll of the disaster, while also drawing attention to the resilience and heroism of those working to combat the fires and support recovery efforts.
