Wendy Williams has spoken out against recent reports that she is cognitively impaired due to her diagnosis of progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia. In an interview with The Breakfast Club on Thursday, she denied needing the level of care she is receiving and firmly stated, “I am not cognitively impaired.” Williams expressed her frustration with the current living conditions, describing them as a "prison." She is currently residing in a facility where most residents are much older, which she believes further isolates her. At 60 years old, she proudly insists that she remains “sexy and gorgeous” despite her circumstances.
Her niece, Alex Fannie, echoed Williams’ frustrations, calling the facility a “luxury prison” and describing the restrictive environment. Fannie detailed the challenges she faced visiting her aunt, including excessive security and intrusive questioning, which added to the emotional distress of the situation. Williams’ family believes she is not getting the proper care and is being prevented from connecting with loved ones or accessing the internet, a claim Williams also confirmed during the interview.
Williams, who was placed in a court-ordered financial guardianship in 2022, revealed that she feels trapped by the conservatorship system, which she compares to emotional abuse. Her attorney, Roberta Kaplan, acknowledged her condition but emphasized that due to the degenerative nature of her disease, Williams will need care for the rest of her life. Despite the challenges she faces, Williams’ family and representatives argue for her dignity and freedom, seeking a reevaluation of her circumstances to potentially regain some independence.
