Hip-hop legend Redman recently shared insights into his personal journey, revealing that he has been practicing celibacy for the past two years. In an interview with Ambrosia For Heads, Redman, born Reginald Noble, explained that his decision to abstain from sex came after the end of a challenging seven-year divorce. This emotional period in his life not only affected his personal life but also delayed the release of his album Muddy Waters Too.
Redman says being celibate for 2 1/2 years was the best thing he ever did in his life as he speaks about fasting from sex and smoking.

Redman described his experience of fasting, which included abstaining from both sex and smoking for over two years. “It was the best thing I could have done in my life,” he said, emphasizing the clarity and focus it brought him. Although the journey was tough initially, he gradually found peace. “I was constantly talking to myself... me and God, just back and forth,” he recalled, reflecting on the emotional struggle during this time.
Beyond the physical and emotional benefits, Redman shared that celibacy allowed him to clear out distractions and focus on his personal growth and creativity. “It cleared out so much distraction. My reception is much clearer now,” he noted, revealing that he gained better control over his choices and actions, now able to differentiate what was beneficial for him.
While celibacy has played a major role in Redman’s personal transformation, he also celebrated the release of his long-awaited album Muddy Waters Too on Christmas Eve. The 32-track album features contributions from artists like Queen Latifah, Erick Sermon, and Snoop Dogg, marking a major milestone in his career.
