OKARA:

A man allegedly sexually assaulted his ex-wife after breaking into her home within the jurisdiction of A-Division Police Station.

The accused, identified as Muhammad Azam, was arrested following police raids.

The police said Muhammad Azam, a resident of 26-2R village, had married Anjuman Bibi 13 years ago.

The couple had four children before their marriage ended in divorce in 2020 due to domestic disputes. After the divorce, Azam allegedly entered into a relationship with Anjuman's younger sister, Sidra, resulting in the birth of two illegitimate children. He later ended the relationship and married another woman, Saba, with whom he has one child.

On the day of the incident, Azam visited his ex-wife's house with his current wife, Saba, to meet his children. Due to bad weather, the couple stayed overnight.

Late at night, Azam allegedly entered Anjuman's room and sexually assaulted her. The victim contacted her brother Usman Ashraf who rushed to her aid. However, Azam fled the scene before they arrived.

Police were informed through a 15 emergency call and promptly registered a case under the relevant sections for assault.

Acting on the directives of District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Rashid Hidayat, police apprehended Azam during a raid. The victim has been sent for a medical examination, and further investigations are underway.
