Which city leads in tax payments? FBR report released

The Federal Board of Revenue has released its annual report for direct and sales tax collected from major cities.

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has released its report on tax contributions by cities for the fiscal year 2023-24, revealing which city paid the most taxes, Express News reported on Tuesday.

According to the FBR, Karachi topped the list, collecting a total of Rs2,522 billion in taxes, continuing its consistent position as the highest contributor.

The report shows that Karachi's Large Tax Office (LTO) collected over Rs2,522 billion in taxes during the reviewed period. This included more than Rs1,360 billion in income tax and Rs136.3 million in federal excise duty. Additionally, the LTO Karachi also collected over Rs1,000 billion in sales tax.

Lahore's LTO came second, with total collections exceeding Rs1,402 billion, while Islamabad's LTO ranked third, with a total of Rs1,164 billion in tax collections.
