The Islamabad Excise and Taxation Department has extended the deadline for vehicle token tax payments by 15 days, now set for January 15. This extension gives vehicle owners additional time to clear their dues and avoid legal penalties.

The department has taken strict measures against defaulters, including the cancellation of vehicle registrations for those who fail to pay the token tax. Penalties of up to 200% of the unpaid amount will be imposed on non-compliant individuals.

Bilal Azam, Director of Excise, confirmed that excise office counters will remain open until 8:00 p.m. to facilitate the submission of taxes. He stressed that failure to comply with the tax deadline would lead to the cancellation of vehicle registrations.

In an effort to ease the process for vehicle owners, the Excise and Taxation Department also offered vehicular-related services at the Trail 3 parking lot on Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Excise staff were available on-site to assist with vehicle registration, transfers, and token tax processing.

The ICT administration has introduced the ICT Doorstep Service to simplify administrative tasks. Citizens can access services such as domicile certificates, birth certificates, power of attorney documents, international driving permits, and fuel permits at the same location.

For further assistance, citizens can contact the toll-free number 051-111-383-383 to schedule an appointment and avail themselves of the services.

Earlier the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif asserted on Wednesday that despite persistent political unrest and protests aimed at destabilising the government, Pakistan has managed to achieve economic stability and to meet its fiscal targets.

Addressing the federal cabinet, the prime minister said, “Protests tried to derail the economy, but we succeeded in improving the financial landscape.”

He highlighted that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) achieved 97% of its December tax collection target, meeting commitments made to the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The PM praised officials for their efforts in mobilising resources, noting a significant contribution of Rs72 billion from Alternate Dispute Resolution (ADR) measures. “Despite a substantial gap between targets and collections, the FBR leadership deserves appreciation,” he remarked.

PM Shehbaz also commended measures to digitise Karachi Port operations through a $6 million grant from the Bill Gates Foundation, which reduced container processing time by 39%. This initiative, he said, has expedited trade and improved transparency.
