'Tamgha-e-Karachi' awards pay tribute to city's martyrs

The Mayor of Karachi has designated January 5 for presenting the prestigious "Tamgha-e-Karachi" award to the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) heroes. A ceremony organised by the KMC paid tribute to the city's benefactors by recognising outstanding contributions made by KMC employees and their families.

The event was organised at the Khaliq Dina Hall, where individuals who served Karachi with distinction were awarded. Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab and Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad attended the event. Medals were presented to the notable figures from different walks of life during the ceremony, including martyrs from the City Warden and Fire Brigade services. Honorees included artist Mehtab Ali, educationist Darya Qazi, social worker Fatima Majeed, and writer Saima Saleem, alongside the families of Fire Brigade and City Warden martyrs who sacrificed their lives to protect the public.

On this occasion, Mayor Karachi said that the true heroes are those whose services KMC has celebrated today. He praised their dedication, stating that these individuals not only fulfilled their duties but also made the ultimate sacrifice to ensure public safety. He assured the families of the martyrs that their loved ones' sacrifices would never be forgotten.

The Mayor also commended artists who have highlighted Pakistan's positive image and brought international recognition to the country. Each honoree received a cash prize of Rs500,000, while the medals contained pure gold and silver. He further announced that now the Tamgha-e- Karachi ceremony would be held every year on January 5 to pay tribute to the services of the city's unsung heroes.
