The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has dismissed the bail plea of a suspect accused of kidnapping and robbery, citing substantial evidence against him.
Justice Babar Sattar, in a detailed order, stated that the material on record sufficiently links the accused, Arbaz Abbasi, to the alleged crimes.
The case revolves around an incident where Abbasi, impersonating a Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) officer, reportedly robbed a citizen, Zamad Khan. According to the First Information Report (FIR), Abbasi entered Khan's office armed with weapons, handcuffed him, and kidnapped him. He allegedly stole 130 laptops, personal belongings, and Rs400,000 in cash while demanding an additional Rs15 million in ransom.
Abbasi's lawyer argued that his client was falsely implicated and that the identification parade was not conducted according to legal standards. However, FIA records indicate that the suspect was traced through CCTV footage and underwent an identification parade. The uniform of a private security agency used during the incident was also recovered from Abbasi.
The court observed that robbery carries a potential life sentence and that the defence counsel failed to demonstrate grounds for further inquiry. It ruled the bail application as meritless and rejected it.
