ISLAMABAD:

A total of Rs74 billion development budget has been earmarked for Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) for the ongoing financial year.

It was told by the officials of Kashmir affairs ministry to National Assembly Standing Committee on Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan during a briefing on Thursday.

The NA panel meeting was held under the chair of MNA Imtiaz Ahmed Chaudhry. The ministry officials told the panel members during the briefing that Rs40 billion were reserved for development projects in AJK, including Rs31 billion for ADP, Rs4 billion for nine projects of PSDP and Rs5 billion for development projects under special package of the Prime Minister.

Similarly, Rs34 billion have been earmarked for development projects in Gilgit-Baltistan - Rs21 billion for ADP, Rs9.5 billion for 17 projects of PSDP and Rs4 billion under special package of the Prime Minister.

The ministry officials informed the panel that the ministry for Kashmir Affairs owns agricultural, commercial and residential land in Punjab. 70 Kashmiri students are studying in Pakistani varsities while 270 students get scholarship in AJK, the ministry officials told the committee, adding scholarships worth Rs7 million were awarded among AJK students in 2024.
