Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has said the government effectively managed challenges in 2024 and is determined to fulfil its commitments to the nation in the coming year.
Speaking at a media briefing in the federal capital, Dar outlined the government’s achievements and expressed optimism for Pakistan’s future, Express News reported.
Reflecting on the past year, Dar emphasised that 2024 was a pivotal year for Pakistan, particularly with the general elections, in which the public gave their mandate to the Pakistan Muslim League (N).
He stated that the government has worked diligently to tackle challenges such as inflation and interest rates.
"We have succeeded in reducing inflation, which has now fallen to below 5 percent, a significant improvement from the previous year," he added.
Dar also noted that when the government took office, interest rates were at 22 percent, but have now been reduced to 13 percent, a move that he believes has positively impacted the economy.
"We are continuously working to deliver on the promises made to the nation, and the economy is steadily improving," he said, underscoring the government's focus on economic stability.
The Deputy Prime Minister also highlighted the recent launch of the "Udaan Pakistan Programme" by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, aimed at driving national economic growth.
In his address, Dar also spoke about recent changes in the country’s diplomatic appointments.
He revealed that Shafqat Khan had been appointed as the new spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and that Zehra Baloch was appointed as Pakistan’s Ambassador to France, following consultations with the Prime Minister.
Looking ahead to 2025, Dar expressed hope that the year would bring further progress and stability for Pakistan, reinforcing the government's commitment to fulfilling its promises and improving the nation’s economic conditions.
