An alleged robber, wanted in over 121 criminal cases was killed in a crossfire between the Organised Crime Unit (OCU) Defence and armed suspects late Monday night.
The deceased, identified as Ramzan alias Jani, was shot dead by his accomplices during the exchange of fire, while the remaining suspects managed to escape.
According to police, the OCU Defence team intercepted three suspicious motorcyclists following a call to the police emergency helpline.
Upon being signalled to stop, the suspects opened indiscriminate fire on the officers. In the ensuing shootout, Ramzan was fatally struck by bullets fired by his own accomplices, who fled the scene under the cover of darkness.
DSP Organised Crime Raees Ahmed Khan confirmed that Ramzan was a hardened criminal with a record of over 121 offences.
