The new Nosferatu film, directed by Robert Eggers, has received widespread acclaim from critics and audiences, debuting strongly at the box office. For fans eager for more, Eggers has announced that an extended edition of the film will be included in its upcoming Blu-ray release.

In an interview with Esquire UK, Eggers explained that a visually striking scene featuring Bill Skarsgård as Count Orlok was cut from the theatrical version to maintain suspense around the character. "The first shot [in the trailer] is a funny one because it's not in the movie," Eggers said. "It’s a really cool shot, but where it was placed ruined the tension. If you wish to purchase the Blu-ray, it’s in the extended edition of the film."

This extended cut promises to expand on the longest Nosferatu adaptation yet, with the theatrical version already running at 2 hours and 12 minutes. For comparison, the 1922 original was 1 hour and 12 minutes, and the 1979 adaptation ran for 1 hour and 47 minutes. Fans are eager to see how the additional content enhances Eggers’ gothic vision.

The announcement comes as Nosferatu continues to captivate audiences, holding an 87% Certified Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes and a 75% audience score. The film set a record for the biggest Christmas Day launch for a genre movie, earning $40.3 million over its debut weekend.

With a star-studded cast including Bill Skarsgård, Lily-Rose Depp, and Willem Dafoe, Nosferatu has solidified its place as one of 2024’s standout films. The Blu-ray release of the extended edition offers fans a chance to experience Eggers’ full creative vision, making it a must-have for collectors and horror enthusiasts.
