Sindh Police have announced that from January 1, 2025, vehicles without a licence will be impounded, and strict action will be taken against traffic law violators without discrimination, Express News reported.
A meeting chaired by IG Sindh, Ghulam Nabi Memon, was held at the Central Police Office in Karachi on Tuesday to discuss the enforcement and implementation of traffic laws.
The decision was made to continue the awareness campaign on obtaining driving licences and to begin strict actions against unlicensed drivers and traffic violators starting from January 1, 2025.
DIG Traffic reported that the traffic police face issues such as encroachments, parking management, law violations, and poor traffic infrastructure.
He added that an awareness campaign, which began on December 20, has set up camps at 35 public locations, and more than 2,000 banners have been displayed across roads, passenger vehicles, and other places.
As a result of this campaign, there has been a 25-30% increase in the number of people applying for driving licences. At the meeting, IG Sindh directed that strict action be taken against unlicenced drivers violating traffic rules, and that their vehicles should be immediately impounded.
He also instructed that traffic police avoid general checks on the roads and instead focus on observing and stopping drivers violating the rules, after which they should greet the citizen and request their driving licence.
He further stated that licenced drivers violating traffic rules would be fined, while vehicles of unlicenced drivers would be impounded on the spot.
IG Sindh emphasised that investigating traffic accidents thoroughly can help prevent the obvious causes of such incidents.
He directed all officers to ensure comprehensive investigations into traffic accidents, monitor traffic flow and incidents on a daily basis, and hold regular training sessions for traffic personnel.
