RAWALPINDI:

The 1st Mega Motocross Championship captivated audiences from Rawalpindi and Islamabad on Sunday, offering a high-octane showcase of motorcycle racing talent.

Organised by MXD Motocross and DHA at DHA Phase 7, the championship featured bikers competing across various categories, from 70cc to heavy 250cc bikes, on a specially constructed 6-kilometre mud track.

The event drew over 150 participants, including women riders, who demonstrated their biking prowess.

Final races for 70cc, 125cc, and 250cc categories took place on Sunday, with 15 participants competing in the 70cc category, 8 in the 125cc race, and 10 in the 250cc heavy bike and Euro categories.

In the Endeavours category, Haider Ali claimed first place, followed by Muhammad Hasnain in second, and Chaudhary Adnan in third.

Prizes were awarded to standout performers.

Col (Retd) Amir Zafar, the event organiser, highlighted the championship's goal of providing a safe platform for youth engaged in the risky hobby of street racing.

"Our aim is to encourage bikers to showcase their skills in a secure environment. The enthusiasm of participants and spectators over the two-day competition is encouraging," he said, adding that such events will continue in the future.

Haider Ali, one of the winners, expressed appreciation for the organisers, saying the event exceeded expectations.

"This type of track and event in Rawalpindi-Islamabad is a welcome surprise. I hope similar competitions are organised in other cities," he remarked.

Spectators, including families, praised the event for offering a safe and engaging environment. "It's refreshing to see this facility keeping bikers off the streets. I hope it becomes a regular feature," commented one attendee.

Special arrangements included dedicated viewing areas for families, food stalls, a jumping castle, and a magic show for children, ensuring an inclusive atmosphere for all age groups.
