KARACHI:

A crackdown has been launched against illegal residences and unauthorised rentals in the residential colonies of Pakistan Railways across the metropolitan city as part of efforts to address growing concerns over misuse of railways properties.

The operation was launched in compliance with the directives of Railways Divisional Superintendent Nasir Khalili on Friday.

As many as 110 houses and four bungalows have been sealed in Keamari, while five railways employees have been suspended for their alleged involvement in renting out or occupying railways-owned properties illegally.

In connection with crackdown, a survey of the railways colonies within Karachi Division has been ongoing in order to identify further violations.

The operation's objective is to curb growing illegal occupation and ensure that railways resources are used by authorised officials.

Khalili, meanwhile, warned that stringent legal action will be taken against employees found guilty of renting out houses allocated to them.

He also made it clear that unauthorised occupants, including those illegally residing on railways land, would face immediate eviction.

"We will not tolerate any encroachments on railways land," Khalili said, adding that violators must vacate the properties without delay.

The Department of Electric has already started severing unauthorised power lines in railways colonies as part of the ongoing crackdown on illegal electricity connections, he added.
