Bar voices concern over 'misuse' of taxpayers' money

PTBA sounds alarm over rising non-development expenditures, increased budgetary allocations for govt employee salaries

KARACHI:

The Pakistan Tax Bar Association (PTBA) on Saturday wrote a letter to the chairman of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Finance and Revenue, expressing serious concerns over the alleged misuse of public funds.

Citing Article 19A of the Constitution, which ensures citizens' right to access to information, the PTBA demanded clarity on how taxpayers' money is being utilised. In the letter, the PTBA alleged that taxpayers' money is being spent irresponsibly, with little regard for its proper use.

The association specifically criticised expenditures on foreign visits by government delegations, stating that such practices discourage taxpayers, undermine tax collection efforts, and contribute to a declining national exchequer.

The PTBA also sounded alarm over the rising non-development expenditures and increased budgetary allocations for government employee salaries.
