Man arrested for kidnapping, torture

Police in Haripur said Monday they have arrested a man accused of kidnapping a citizen, stripping him, and forcibly cutting his hair and moustache.

According to Khanpur police officials, Assistant Sub-Inspector Imran Hameed received information during a patrol that a man, identified as Zulqarnain and his three accomplices had kidnapped Ahmed Yameen.

The victim was reportedly being transported in a car.

Responding to the call, police intercepted the vehicle near Muslimabad Bazaar, where a group of armed individuals, allegedly linked to the suspects, attempted to interfere in the arrest.

They attacked the police team with sticks and stones, damaging a police vehicle in the process.

Seven individuals involved in obstructing the police were identified as Khurram, Abdul Manan, Anis Ahmed, Raja Wasif, Haroon, Jamal, and Rashid. Cases against them were registered under various sections of the Pakistan Penal Code, including 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servants), 440 (mischief), and 148 (rioting, armed with a deadly weapon).

Additionally, a separate case was registered against Zulqarnain, Rehan, Yawar, Sajid, and others for charges including kidnapping, torture, and humiliation of the victim under sections 365, 337V, 501, 502, and 506ii of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Police teams have been formed to apprehend the remaining suspects, and raids are being conducted at various locations, the police said.
