Universal Pictures has officially retitled the sequel to its blockbuster musical Wicked: Part One.
The second installment, originally titled Wicked: Part Two, will now be called Wicked: For Good. The highly anticipated film, directed by Jon M. Chu, is set to hit theaters on November 21, 2025.
The new title draws inspiration from the poignant Act 2 song in the Broadway musical, reflecting the transformative friendship between Glinda the Good (Ariana Grande) and Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West (Cynthia Erivo). Picking up after the events of Part One, the sequel delves deeper into Elphaba’s rise in power and her declaration as an enemy of the state by the Wizard (Jeff Goldblum) and Madame Morrible (Michelle Yeoh).
Wicked: Part One, which debuted on November 22, 2024, has been a massive success, grossing $359 million domestically and over $524 million worldwide. It now holds the record as the highest-grossing Broadway adaptation in domestic box office history, surpassing 1978’s Grease. Globally, it is second only to 2008’s Mamma Mia ($611 million).
The Wicked films tell the backstory of Oz, set before and during Dorothy’s arrival. The first movie explored Glinda and Elphaba’s time as unlikely roommates at Shiz University and the evolution of their bond.
Fans can expect the sequel to delve into the emotional and dramatic fallout of their friendship and Elphaba’s ultimate transformation.
