In a bid to show solidarity with the people of Palestine, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Pakistan’s Amir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has announced plans for a 'million march' in Islamabad on December 29, Express News reported on Friday.
Addressing a gathering at the Jamaat-e-Islami headquarters in Lahore, Rehman condemned the ongoing genocide of Muslims in Gaza, accusing global powers of offering full protection to Israeli forces. “The mass killing of Muslims continues while international powers back Israeli forces,” he said.
While emphasising the importance of upholding the constitution and rule of law in the country, he stated that without these principles, the nation could not progress.
“The government and institutions must function within the constitutional framework,” he said, stressing the need to foster a peaceful political culture. He added, “It is essential to reduce the growing rift between the military and the public. Solutions to national issues cannot be found by curbing democratic freedoms.”
The JI leader also criticised the long-standing issue of Independent Power Producers (IPPs) in Pakistan, saying that despite efforts by the party, including an impactful public movement, the benefits of halting IPPs have not been passed on to the people.
“The reduction in IPP operations has not benefited the common man. The government must provide relief to the public by lowering the prices of electricity, petrol, and essential food items,” Rehman urged.
