OJ Simpson’s estate is reportedly considering auctioning his collection of explicit magazines to address significant debts. According to TMZ, Malcolm LaVergne, Simpson’s longtime attorney and executor of his estate, confirmed that the late football star’s collection, accumulated during his 2008 incarceration in Nevada, is being evaluated for sale.
Simpson acquired the collection during his prison sentence, where inmates were reportedly allowed access to such material. After his release in 2017, Simpson retained the stash, despite having access to online pornography. The collection’s auction is tentatively planned for early 2025 as part of efforts to settle the estate’s financial obligations.
The estate faces mounting challenges in addressing Simpson’s debts. Simpson, who passed away in April 2024 at the age of 76 following a battle with cancer, left behind significant liabilities. His family announced his passing, stating, “On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren.”
Simpson was ordered to pay $33.5 million in a 1997 civil judgment after being found liable for the wrongful deaths of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman. With interest on the unpaid amount, the debt has reportedly grown to approximately $100 million. Despite efforts to raise funds, including the sale of one of Simpson’s properties, the financial burden persists.
The auction of Simpson’s collection is one of several attempts to ease the estate’s financial challenges, though the success of such efforts remains uncertain.
