Bonnie Wright, best known for her role as Ginny Weasley in the original Harry Potter films, has expressed her thoughts on HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter TV remake. Wright, 33, believes her return to the role as a cameo would be "confusing," explaining that revisiting Ginny in the same timeline could create overly meta moments. She also shared her excitement for the new cast, adding, "I’m excited for what’s next for that character."
Speaking at the New York City Back to Hogwarts event, Wright mentioned her hopes for the series to explore more content from the books, which wasn’t included in the films due to time constraints. The planned adaptation will dedicate one season to each book, allowing for deeper storytelling and character development.
Beyond her Harry Potter reflections, Wright appeared as a guest judge on Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking, a Food Network competition celebrating the magic of baking. The show, hosted by James and Oliver Phelps (Fred and George Weasley), features pastry chefs and cake artists creating elaborate confections inspired by the wizarding world. Wright judged the penultimate episode, filmed on the set of Dumbledore’s Office, where contestants designed transforming four-tier cakes.
Reflecting on her experience, Wright praised the creativity of the bakers and the show’s nostalgic setting, filmed on iconic Harry Potter sets like Diagon Alley and Platform 9 3/4. While enjoying baking at home for her son Elio, Wright acknowledged the intensity of professional baking competitions, recalling her own participation in The Great British Bake Off.
Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking airs Thursdays on Food Network and Max.
