‘Conclave’ and ‘Wicked’ dominate Critics Choice Awards nominations with 11 nods each

The Critics Choice Association has unveiled the nominees for the 30th Critics Choice Awards, with Conclave and Wicked emerging as frontrunners, each securing an impressive 11 nominations.

Both films are competing for Best Picture alongside Dune: Part Two, Emilia Pérez, A Complete Unknown, Anora, The Brutalist, Nickel Boys, Sing Sing, and The Substance. This year’s nominations showcase a remarkable range of genres and themes, reflecting the diversity and creativity of modern cinema.

Conclave received nods in Best Picture, Best Acting Ensemble, and Best Actor for Ralph Fiennes. Isabella Rossellini earned a nomination for Best Supporting Actress, while Edward Berger and Peter Straughan were recognized in the Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay categories, respectively. The film also shone in technical categories, including Best Cinematography, Production Design, and Score.

Wicked dominated with nominations for Best Picture and Best Acting Ensemble. Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande secured nods for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress. Director Jon M. Chu, screenwriters Winnie Holzman and Dana Fox, and cinematographer Alice Brooks were also recognized. The film earned nominations for Production Design, Costume Design, Hair and Makeup, and Visual Effects.

Close behind, Dune: Part Two and Emilia Pérez each garnered 10 nominations. Dune saw recognition for Denis Villeneuve as Best Director and for Hans Zimmer’s score, while Emilia Pérez earned nods for Karla Sofía Gascón and Zoe Saldaña, alongside Best Foreign Language Film.

The 30th Critics Choice Awards, executive-produced by Bob Bain Productions and Berlin Entertainment, will take place on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, with live coverage on E!. The full list of nominees highlights a stellar year for cinema.
