The grandeur of Pakistan's cultural legacy came alive at the Serena Hotel, Islamabad, as the Aga Khan Music Program (AKMP), in collaboration with the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) and Serena Hotels, hosted the enchanting evening, Mystical Melodies - A Celebration of Folk Music Heritage.

The event brought together diplomats, dignitaries and luminaries from all walks of life to celebrate the timeless beauty of folk music. The Ambassador of France Nicolas Galey was the Chief Guest at the event.

The evening began with a warm networking session over hi-tea, followed by welcome speeches from the hosts of the events, followed by the Chief Guest's heartfelt address, which highlighted the universal language of music and its role in building bridges across cultures. He went onto pay tribute to the deep and soulful heritage of Pakistan.

The performances, designed to stir the soul and resonate with the majestic echoes of the highlands, delivered on their promise to captivate. The students of Leif Larsen Music Center (LLMC) – an initiative of AKMP opened the event with a vibrant set of folk classics, blending traditional rhythms with modern flair. Dr Masooma Anwar followed with a spellbinding performance of Sufi and folk tunes with a contralto powerhouse voice that commanded the stage. In a special joint performance, Dr Masooma and LLMC brought the audience to their feet with a harmonious tribute to the beauty of Pakistan's cultural diversity.

The evening reached its climax with the legendary Ustad Noor Baksh, whose riveting performances on the Benju took the audience on a journey through the vast landscapes of Balochistan. His masterful artistry was a testament to the enduring spirit of Pakistan's musical traditions.

Speaking at the event, AKF CEO Akhtar Iqbal remarked, "Tonight's melodies transcend borders, reminding us of the beauty and power of Pakistan's cultural heritage. It is through such gatherings that we preserve and celebrate our traditions for generations to come."

The audience, including ambassadors from France, the US, Germany, Portugal, diplomats from UN agencies, senior government officials and leaders from various institutions, left the evening enthralled, their spirits lifted by the ethereal magic of music and culture.
