Ten new driving schools dedicated to female learners have been launched in Lahore, with the aim of promoting women’s mobility and independence, according to local media sources.
The initiative, announced by the city’s Chief Traffic Officer Amara Tahir, offers female-only driving classes at several locations across the city, including Greater Iqbal Park, Kahna Misaq Center, and Defence Khidmat Markaz.
The schools, which are staffed by female instructors, operate from 8 am to 4 pm to accommodate women’s schedules.
The new facilities are designed to help women gain confidence behind the wheel and become more self-sufficient.
“By offering a women-to-women service, we hope to make driving more accessible and empower women in Lahore,” said Amara Tahir, Lahore's CTO.
In a related development, the Punjab government has also reduced the waiting period for those who fail the road driving test. Candidates can now retake the test after just 15 days, down from the previous 42-day waiting period.
This initiative is part of a wider push to enhance female participation in various sectors and improve gender equality in the city.
