Jeremy Allen White, the Emmy-winning star of The Bear, has joined the cast of The Mandalorian & Grogu, the upcoming Star Wars feature film, as the voice of Jabba the Hutt’s son, Rotta the Hutt.

This marks White’s debut in a major franchise following his breakout role as Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto on the FX series.

Directed by Jon Favreau, who co-wrote the screenplay with Dave Filoni, The Mandalorian & Grogu is set to release on May 22, 2026. The film will continue the saga of Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and Grogu in the years following Return of the Jedi. White’s casting offers a first glimpse into the plot, suggesting ties to the Hutt crime empire, last explored in The Book of Boba Fett. Speculation is already swirling about appearances from Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) and Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen).

White’s role as Rotta comes as he works on the Bruce Springsteen biopic Deliver Me From Nowhere, helmed by Scott Cooper. Known for his work on Shameless, White’s star power surged with The Bear, earning him critical acclaim and multiple awards.

Sigourney Weaver is also confirmed to appear in an undisclosed role, further raising anticipation for this first Star Wars feature since 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker. Fans are eager to see how Rotta the Hutt’s story influences the galaxy’s crime dynamics in this long-awaited installment. Lucasfilm has yet to comment on the casting.
