Beyoncé’s mother Tina Knowles stirs debate by liking post highlighting Jay-Z lawsuit
Tina Knowles, the mother of Beyoncé, has seemingly weighed in on the recent rape allegations against her son-in-law, Jay-Z.
Shortly after the 55-year-old rapper was accused of raping a 13-year-old girl alongside Sean "Diddy" Combs in 2000—a claim he has vehemently denied—Knowles liked an Instagram post that highlighted the allegations.
The post, shared by ABC 7 Chicago, featured a headline stating, "Breaking News: Jay-Z, Diddy Named in Lawsuit Alleging Rape of Girl, 13," accompanied by a photo of both music moguls. The caption read, "Shawn 'Jay-Z' Carter and Sean 'Diddy' Combs are accused of raping a then-13-year-old girl at an afterparty following the 2000 Video Music Awards, according to an amended civil lawsuit filed Sunday."
The action by Tina Knowles has sparked discussions among fans and media outlets, as she is publicly acknowledging the serious allegations facing Jay-Z, who married her daughter Beyoncé in 2008. The couple shares three children: Blue Ivy, 12, and twins Rumi and Sir, 7.
On Sunday, Jay-Z was named as a defendant in a lawsuit originally filed against Diddy in October. The amended complaint, filed in New York on December 8, alleges that the two artists raped a woman identified as Jane Doe at an afterparty following the MTV Video Music Awards in 2000. The woman claims she was drugged and assaulted while an unnamed female celebrity watched.
Jay-Z has issued a strong denial of the "heinous" allegations, calling the lawsuit a "blackmail attempt." In a statement posted on Roc Nation's X (formerly Twitter) account, he expressed concern for his family, stating that he and Beyoncé would have to explain the situation to their children. "My only heartbreak is for my family," he wrote, emphasizing the impact on his children's innocence.
He also challenged the accuser to file a criminal complaint instead of a civil lawsuit, stating, "These allegations are so heinous in nature that I implore you to file a criminal complaint, not a civil one!"
Diddy, who has been in jail since September on charges of racketeering and sex trafficking, is also named in the lawsuit. His trial is scheduled for May 2025.
Representatives for Tina Knowles have not commented on her social media activity. The situation continues to evolve as both artists face serious allegations that could have significant legal and personal ramifications.
