The Cybercrime Department has registered the first case in Karachi for spreading fake and fabricated news about the state and institutions.
The case has been registered against an individual Saifur Rahman, a resident of Gulshan-e-Iqbal, under the provisions of the Prevention of Electronic Crime Act (PECA). The accused uploaded fake news during the PTI protest in the month of November.
According to the FIR, information was received that Saifur Rahman was spreading fake news on his social networking sites.
During the inquiry and technical analysis, his Twitter account was found active through which he was engaged in the propaganda against the state and its institutions.
The inquiry further revealed that the person involved in the case also used derogatory language for the state.
Technical analysis also found several posts against the state. However, no arrest has been made under the registered case so far.
